Match Report: Things go swimmingly for the Dolphins in the wet

Poole Town 2

Beaconsfield Town 0

Southern League Premier South | MD10 | 02/10/21 |

Weather warnings and constant downpours weren’t enough to deny Poole from beating Beaconsfield in a game played under torrid conditions.

A debut was handed to AFC Bournemouth youngster Brooklyn Genesini, with Poole remaining with three at the back due to the absence of Will Spetch.

In atrocious weather conditions Dolphins looked natural in the wet, with Tony Lee skimming a gilt-edged chance wide early on.

Genesini also found himself behind, managing to squeeze a shot off under pressure that was saved by the feet of Alex Tokarcyzk.

Beaconsfield also saw opportunities, with Lewthwaite left stunned when Mark Childs managed to get an awkward hand to his strike whilst one-on-one.

Luke Holmes then had the best chance of the game at that point – another passing move fashioned in Lee, who squared it for Holmes.

The attacking midfielder tried to curl the ball into the bottom right, but sent it just the other side of the post.

Rams responded with a spell of their own, with the best chance for the away side a Lewthwaite strike that smacked the crossbar.

It appeared it would be another case of Poole failing to take their chances, but Tony Lee again proved reliable as he gave Poole the lead a minute before the break.

Poole poured forward in their numbers, moving the ball out wide for Holmes to deliver a cross into the box.

Despite being tightly marked, Lee somehow managed to get his head underneath the ball to send it past Tokarczyk to give Poole a deserved lead.

The second half saw Poole continue their control of the game, repeatedly generating half chances.

Dolphins did manage to lengthen their lead, with Tony Lee somehow getting a foot to Bartlett’s lofted football over the top – poking it past Tokarczyk for his 14th goal of the season.

Whilst Dolphins continued to control proceedings, Lewthwaite spurned a glorious opportunity one-on-one with Childs, beating the keeper but sending the ball past the post.

From then on the game petered out, allowing Poole to record a 2-0 win.
