Match Report: Spineless Poole thumped again at home

Poole Town 0

Weston-super-Mare 3

Poole Town crashed to a third defeat in a row at home after another damp display hampered by controversial referee decisions, but again showed little heart or desire to mount a comeback.

The first half was a non-event save for two well saved Tony Lee free-kicks that were seemingly goal bound, with neither side challenging either goalkeeper from open play.

Stop-start thanks to some bemusing officiating, neither side looked sharp at any point.

Weston were gifted the lead when substitute Jack Dickson laid off a poor pass for keeper Scott. Despite Scott seemingly winning the ball, the referee pointed to the spot.

Grubb smacked the post but luck was clearly on Weston’s side, with the ball rolling into the back of the net.

Poole at this point lost their heads, and despite McCootie bundling Jackson over, no foul was called as he rolled the ball to Bastin to convert.

Poor goalkeeping from Scott allowed Weston to slot home a third, with Poole’s midfield again leaving their defence high and dry.

Perhaps the match official was feeling sorry for such a limp display, he gave Dolphins a consolation penalty when Jack Dickson had the slightest nudge in the back in the box.

Tony Lee stepped up but could only send a rasping drive into the feet of Max Harris, a passage of play that summed up Poole’s evening.

Team: Scott, Rose, Genesini, Jackson, Spetch, Carmichael, Moore, Holmes, Burbidge, Davey, Lee

Weston: Harris, Thomas (C), Laird, Dodd, Avery, Williams, McCootie, Humphries, Henry, Bastin, Murray
